Founded by Robert “Bob” Blumhagen in 1973, Gabob Appaloosa Ranch takes its name from a delightful blend of Bob’s own moniker and that of his wife, Gayle. Nestled in the picturesque Battle River Valley near Forestburg, Alberta, Canada, our ranch spans a stunning 800 acres.

Our Passion for Appaloosas

Bob’s passion for Appaloosa horses is evident in the well-bred herd he meticulously tends. From mares to studs, yearlings to geldings, each horse receives personalized care. Bob not only raises these magnificent creatures but also trains them, ensuring they are ready for riding.

A Legacy in the Industry

Bob Blumhagen is a respected figure in the Appaloosa industry. His reputation extends beyond Canadian borders, with involvement in buying, selling, and breeding horses across North America. His dedication to the breed has earned him numerous prestigious awards and recognition throughout his career.
 

Most recently, at the 2025 World Championship Appaloosa Show, “Chip” earned the prestigious title of World Champion with outstanding performances across several highly competitive classes. Competing against top Appaloosas from across the industry, Chip showcased the athleticism, presence, and versatility that define an exceptional stallion.

Family-Run and Sustainable

At Gabob Appaloosa Ranch, it’s a family affair. Bob and Gayle work tirelessly, managing the ranch together. During the summer months, they bale and grow their own feed for the horses, ensuring their well-being even in the harsh winter.
